MAINLY due to coach Erik Spoelstra, a Fil-Am, Pinoy cage buffs favor the Miami Heat to prevail over the Dallas Mavericks in their best-of-seven NBA title showdown that starts on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
Majority of 50 respondents polled by Malaya Business Insight, led by former senator Robert Jaworski, said the Heat would prevail, simply because it’s Spoelstra calling the shots.
Jaworski said the Heat should win if only to prove to the world that Filipinos are a force to reckon with, like boxing star Manny Pacquiao.
"I hope they (Heat) win because of their Fil-Am coach," said Jaworski, who recalled "Spoelstra exuded humility when we first met.
"Humility is one of the better traits any human being must possess," added Jaworski, a many-time champion coach in the PBA who also led the all-pro national team to a silver medal in the 1990 Beijing Asian Games.
"But if they (Heat) want to win, they must understand that beyond money and pain, hard work and prayer, at the end of the day, have always been a winning combination," he stressed.
